FAA has taken an unprecedented step by banning drones over certain areas in New Jersey, citing special security concerns. This move includes the threat of shooting down unauthorized drones that pose an imminent security threat. The restricted areas are now classified as National Defense airspace, covering parts of Jersey City and Edison. Despite these measures, the Department of Homeland Security assures there is no threat to public safety. Additionally, there has been a significant 69% increase in laser strikes on planes in the state, prompting authorities to warn against targeting aircraft with lasers due to the risk of causing temporary blindness to pilots, which could lead to dangerous situations. The drone ban is set to last until January 17th, and violators may face federal charges.
