TED - Why Does Civility Pay? | Christine Porath @TED #tedx

Incivility spreads easily and affects emotions, motivation, performance, and interpersonal treatment. Despite its high cost, incivility persists mainly due to stress and the misconception that civility undermines leadership. However, research shows that civility actually enhances leadership perception and performance. Civil individuals are twice as likely to be seen as leaders and perform better. Civility combines warmth and competence, making individuals appear friendly and smart. Simple actions like thanking, sharing credit, listening, asking questions, acknowledging others, and smiling can foster a civil environment. Such environments boost productivity, creativity, helpfulness, happiness, and health.
