Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of Russia's nuclear and chemical defense forces, was killed in Moscow by a bomb hidden in an electric scooter. The explosion, equivalent to 300 grams of TNT, was remotely detonated near an apartment building. Kirillov and his unit were under international sanctions for using chemical weapons in Ukraine. Ukrainian security services claim responsibility for the attack, labeling it a 'special operation' against a war criminal. Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has recorded around 4,800 instances of chemical weapon use by Russia, particularly involving grenades with toxic substances dropped from drones on Ukrainian troops.
