Mangion, who was recognized and arrested at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania, is a college graduate with a strong academic background. He attended an all-boys private school where he was named valedictorian, indicating his high academic standing. He further pursued higher education at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution, where he earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in computer science. Professionally, Mangion worked as a video game developer and later as a data engineer for a car website until 2023. Upon his arrest, Mangion was found in possession of a 'ghost gun,' which is a firearm that can be made at home using a 3D printer, along with a silencer and ammunition. He also had multiple IDs and a three-page handwritten document expressing negative sentiments towards Corporate America. These items contributed to the charges against him, which include murder and four other counts. Mangion is currently held in Pennsylvania and has been denied bail.
