The country has implemented various measures such as equal pay legislation, extensive parental leave, and innovative educational practices to promote gender equality from a young age. For instance, some nursery schools separate boys and girls to encourage them to engage in activities typically associated with the opposite gender, fostering a more balanced development. Despite these advancements, Iceland still grapples with issues like gender-based violence, with a significant percentage of women experiencing sexual violence. Activists argue that while Iceland is often portrayed as a feminist paradise, there is still much work to be done, particularly in addressing systemic issues within the justice system where many cases of sexual violence do not reach court. The country aims to completely close the gender gap by 2030 and serve as a model for global gender equality efforts.
